Yoona Hur: Moving Stillness

Heather Gaudio Fine Art is pleased to present Yoona Hur: Moving Stillness, her solo exhibition at the gallery. The show will open June 6th with a reception for the artist 6-8pm and will be on view through July 20th, 2024. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Hur is a New York-based artist who explores cultural identity, spirituality and materiality through ceramics and paper. For this exhibition, Hur will present spatial dialogues between ceramic vessels and paper forms mounted on canvas. Hur’s paintings and ceramics draw from Korean traditional arts, architecture, Buddhism, and nature, as well as the Dansaekwha movement (Korean abstract painting from the 1970s). Buddhist understandings of timelessness, vulnerability and ephemerality are rooted in her artistic explorations, and she collapses time and space by reinterpreting past vernaculars through a contemporary lens. For Hur, patterns and textures are a way to suggest subtle movements and impermanence of inner awakenings. Hur honors her cultural past with paneled canvas works referencing Hanok, the classic home in Korea made of wood, stone, and Hanji paper (traditional hand-made mulberry paper). Afternoon Tea at the Rosen House at Caramoor

Afternoon Tea was one of the English traditions Lucie Rosen, founder of Caramoor, enjoyed during her time living in England in the early 1910s. She kept up the practice of inviting friends and guests to tea for many years, using the time for conversation and for planning concerts and other social events. Tea is served in the Music Room, a unique opportunity for you to relax with friends and family in a breathtaking historic setting, featuring a large portrait of Lucie herself. The service includes a variety of tea sandwiches, scones with créme fraiche and preserves, delicious desserts, and a selection of fragrant teas. Self-Guided Rosen House Tours (included with ticket) / Following the tea, you will also have a chance to visit select rooms of the Rosen House starting at 2:00pm, until 3:30pm. The rooms showcase fine examples of decorative arts from Europe and China including jade, porcelain, and textiles that the Rosens admired and collected. (Friday, July 19th at 3 pm and 5 pm) The delicious adventures of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale!  Follow the enigmatic candy manufacturer, Willy Wonka, along with his singing and dancing Oompa Loompas, as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Who will find those tickets and win a tour of the Wonka factory and lifetime supply of candy? The winning children must use their “Pure Imagination” and learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.

Food Truck Fridays is a wildly popular event series that brings together neighbors from near and far once a month between May and September. Since the annual series launched in 2019, the Food Truck Fridays Committee has carefully selected food trucks to complement local restaurants offerings. Multiple different trucks are featured at each monthly event. Tickets are not needed for this family-friendly happening, which runs from 5 to 9pm on select Fridays in Scotts Corners. The series, sponsored by Barnwell Shopping Center, is known for its “good vibes” with a low-key atmosphere and live music.

The Manhattan Project’s Alice in Wonderland

Definitely not your mother’s “Alice,” this rarely revived 1970’s Off-Broadway sensation is an exuberant, funny and strikingly relevant fantasy version of Lewis Carroll’s classic story, accompanying Alice down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass where madness awaits at every turn. Director Peter Green offers a fresh new revival of the acclaimed 1970’s Off-Broadway smash hit that invigorated experimental theatre and captivated audiences around the world. Bring your budding artists to The Aldrich for Story Time, in collaboration with the Ridgefield Library! Together, we will explore the work of artist Esther Ruiz, who uses everything from seashells to stars in the sky to influence her sculptures. Then, we will read Ada and the Galaxies by Anna Lightman and Olga Pastuchiv and illustrated by Susanna Chapman. Finally we will move to The Studio to create our own ocean and galaxy scenes using real shells and rocks!
