Classic Tuesday: Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982)

Steve Martin and Carl Reiner, the comedic minds behind The Jerk and The Man with Two Brains, deliver Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid, a hilarious and inventive comedy-noir. Martin stars as private eye Rigby Reardon, investigating the mysterious death of Juliet Forrest’s (Rachel Ward) father, a renowned scientist and cheesemaker. As Reardon follows a maze of clues and the elusive “Carlotta Lists,” he encounters classic Hollywood icons like Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Cary Grant, and Bette Davis in a clever mix of new footage and vintage clips. A witty, stylish homage to noir that’s as clever as it is fun.

Pink Moon Deep Sleep Meditation
Apr

Pink Moon Deep Sleep Meditation

Come join us for a pink moon yoga Nidra and deep rest session to cultivate renewal this April 1. This class will focus on calming the mind and body, using the April full moon's themes of growth, spring, and rejuvenation to promote deep sleep and relaxation.

Listen to the tranquil visual and guided imagery as you gently relax and restore. One hour equals 3-4 hours of deep sleep and you will feel genuinely refreshed and reinvigorated after the session. There will be no yoga poses.

Participants who suffer from insomnia, stress, depression, inflammation will especially benefit from this ancient practice of Yoga Nidra from India.

Designed for all ages, no experience necessary — stressed office workers, students or parents with whirring minds who are always ‘on the go’, or those practicing intense or competitive sports and need to calm both body and mind.

Bring 2-3 blankets, a yoga mat, eye pillow and bolster for under the knees.

Documentary Film: The Shepherd & The Bear

Set high in the majestic French Pyrenees, The Shepherd and The Bear explores a conflict provoked by the reintroduction of brown bears in the midst of a traditional shepherding community. The film follows an ageing shepherd who struggles to find a successor as bears prey on his flock, and a teenage boy who becomes obsessed with tracking the bears. Through its breathtaking cinematography and immersive storytelling, The Shepherd and The Bear is a modern folktale about tradition, community and humanity’s relationship with a vanishing natural world.

Growing Season Kickoff at Sugar Hill Farm
Apr

Growing Season Kickoff at Sugar Hill Farm

Join us in celebrating the kickoff of the growing season at Westchester Land Trust’s food pantry garden, in this family-friendly event!

Have you been interested in starting a garden of your own, but aren’t sure where to begin? Or are you feeling inspired to get your hands dirty and help fight hunger in our community? Come explore the possibilities and get to know WLT Staff and our partners in local sustainable agriculture at this open house at Sugar Hill Farm, our headquarters in Bedford Hills.

We’ll gather to plant the first seeds of the season, using garden tools forged from firearms during last year’s Guns to Garden Tools event, a symbolic reminder of the healing power of connection to nature. Bring your mini up-and-coming farmers to learn about local growing through story time with Farmer Marc, enjoy nature-based crafts for all ages, and free children’s books to take home.

Refreshments will be served and there will be opportunities to win a raffle and other prizes. Plus, take home free seeds to start a garden of your own and learn about local sustainable agriculture with farmer Allison Turcan of DIG Farm, soil health and nutrient density with Ellen Best, Karen Simons, and Joe Mulligan of the Bionutrient Food Association, and foraging and herbalism with Livia Fleming of the Wild Roots Project.

Learn about our garden volunteer program, which welcomes all ages and abilities to connect with each other, the environment, and their food, through hands-on experience. Last year, with the help of our volunteers, over 2,100 lbs. of fresh produce was grown at Sugar Hill Farm and donated to local pantries. That’s over 10,000 servings!

Connect with us and find out how YOU can help make a difference in your community and leave empowered with the knowledge of how to grow locally and sustainably.

Day + Time: Saturday, April 4, 2026, 10am-12pm, RAIN OR SHINE

Getting There + Parking: Westchester Land Trust’s Sugar Hill Farm, 403 Harris Rd. Bedford Hills, NY.

Accessibility: We have a wheelchair ramp for ease of access to the building. Please reach out if you require accommodations; we are happy to oblige!

Safety: Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If you plan on joining in the planting activity, please wear long pants and long sleeves that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Join us for the kickoff of our second season of Bedford Field Notes on Wednesday, April 15th (6:00-8:00pm), with a lively discussion about Birds—among the most visible and beloved wildlife in Bedford. Tickets are available at BedfordFieldNotes.org.

The evening will feature Dr. Andrew Farnsworth of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Whether you’re an avid birder or simply someone who enjoys the sights and sounds of birds around your home, you’ll come away with a new appreciation for the role birds play in connecting us to the land. Documentary Film + Q&A: Food Inc. 2 with Animal Legal Defense Fund

Presented in partnership with the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Food Inc. 2 is a timely and urgent follow-up to the Oscar-nominated documentary from directors Robert Kenner and Melissa Robledo. In the sequel, Kenner and Robledo reunite with investigative authors Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) to take a fresh look at our vulnerable food system. The groundbreaking Food Inc. ignited a cultural conversation about the multinational corporations that control our food system at enormous cost to our planet, workforce, and health. Food Inc. 2 comes “back for seconds” to reveal how corporate consolidation has gone unchecked by our government, leaving us with a highly efficient yet shockingly vulnerable food system dedicated only towards increasing profits. Seeking solutions, the film introduces innovative farmers, food producers, workers’ rights activists, and prominent legislators such as U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Jon Tester, who are facing these companies head-on and fighting to create a more sustainable future. A Q&A follows the film.

The Remembrance Ball & Parade

As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Cannon Ridge Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is honored to extend an invitation to a commemorative evening in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, the Cannon Ridge Chapter will host the Remembrance Ball at the historic Lounsbury House. This black-tie gala commemorates our Nation’s Semiquincentennial, pays tribute to those who fought for American independence, and respectfully honors all sacrifices made at the Battle of Ridgefield.

Gold’s Dragoons of Westport will be joining us to pay tribute to the great-grandson of their founder and fellow Gold’s Dragoon, Patriot Lieutenant Colonel Abraham Gould of Fairfield, who was killed in action as he led his men during some of the fiercest fighting of the Battle of Ridgefield. Keith Marshall Jones III, author and the definitive voice of the Battle of Ridgefield, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

The evening will feature an exceptional dinner prepared by Chef Forrest Pasternack, trained at the Culinary Institute of America. The menu will be rooted in the revolutionary era and inspired by the storied hospitality of George and Martha Washington. Thereafter, guests will be invited to dance, and to participate in a charitable bidding, reflecting the long-held tradition of society assembling in fellowship and service to the common good.

Proceeds from the Remembrance Ball will remain local to Connecticut and New York and will support the Cannon Ridge Chapter’s charitable initiatives in education, patriotism—particularly service to veterans and their families—and historic preservation.

We would be delighted by the pleasure of your company and hope you will join us for this meaningful occasion.

Historian, journalist and former Friends of John Jay Homestead speaker on his renowned John Quincy Adams: Militant Spirit, Traub spent a year exploring how schools now teach students–or fail to teach them–the essentials of American history and government, as well as how to use that knowledge in respectful, informed debate. HEAR ME OUT: SETTING THE TABLE” IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MEALS ON WHEELS

The Ridgefield Theater Barn (RTB) continues its Hear Me Out storytelling series with its second installment, Hear Me Out: Setting the Table, on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 37 Halpin Lane. This unique evening of live storytelling and shared community experience will spotlight and support Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield (MOW), bringing together powerful personal stories and a meaningful culinary connection.

Following the success of the inaugural event, The Steeple, which benefited St. Stephen’s Church, this next event invites audiences to gather around the universal theme of food—how we nourish ourselves, connect with others, and create lasting memories through shared meals.

In RTB’s intimate, cabaret-style setting, six storytellers—three from Meals on Wheels and three from the community—will share true, personal stories inspired by the theme: Setting the Table. The format is inspired by The Moth StorySLAMs and The Moth Radio Hour, blending humor, heart, and authenticity in an engaging, live experience.

The evening will be co-emceed by Peter Bachmann and Amanda Gabbard. Bachmann, who has performed at storytelling events throughout New York and Connecticut, trained with Bonnie Levison of The Moth’s MothWorks program. Together, Bachmann and Gabbard will guide audiences through an evening of connection, reflection, and community.

In keeping with the theme, patrons will enjoy a thoughtfully prepared dinner provided by MOW, designed to demonstrate what clients receive—offering not only a delicious meal but also a deeper understanding of the organization’s mission and impact. Dessert and post-show conversation with the storytellers will follow.

“Meals on Wheels is pleased and grateful to partner with the Ridgefield Theater Barn to share these important stories more widely,” said Peter Bachmann. “We’re also thankful for the guidance of Bonnie Levison, who has helped shape this event.”

RTB Executive & Artistic Director Pamme Jones added, “We are thrilled to co-produce Hear Me Out: Setting the Table. Our expanded space allows us to serve as a true community arts hub, and we are honored to partner with MOW to highlight the vital work they do in Ridgefield.”

Historic Grainger + Peony Gardens

  • The Glass House Visitor Center & Design Store (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

As part of the national commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, The Glass House will, for the first time, open the 1783 Grainger House and its celebrated peony and iris garden for public tours. The house sits on one of New Canaan’s earliest registered land parcels and was originally known as the Finch House, named for the early New Canaan family who farmed the land.

Purchased in 1990 by David Whitney, partner of Philip Johnson, the house has been carefully restored to its 18th-century form. Whitney furnished the home with significant modernist art and design, elements that remain on view today, including a striking window etching by artist Michael Heizer. He also created a remarkable garden, planting a rare collection of perennial peonies and irises, and installing a sculpture by artist Alessandro Twombly.

Together, the house and garden vividly illustrate the dialogue between early American architectural traditions and the 20th-century art and design that define The Glass House.

Bedford Field Notes: Bugs

  • 608 Old Post Road Bedford, NY, 10506 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us for a lively discussion about Bugs—the smallest, and possibly most critical, creatures in Bedford's ecosystem.

The evening will feature Dr. Jessica Ware, award-winning curator at the American Museum of Natural History where she serves as Chair of the Division of Invertebrate Zoology. The world of insects is far more fascinating—and far more important—than most of us realize. Dr. Ware will introduce us to the astonishing diversity of insects that share our landscapes, from bees and butterflies to dragonflies, beetles, and ants. She and Mianus River Gorge’s Dr. Chris Nagy will explain why these tiny creatures play an outsized role in healthy ecosystems—pollinating plants, recycling nutrients, and supporting the food web. Bedford residents will leave with a new sense of curiosity about the insects they encounter every day, and a clearer understanding of how our choices—from gardening to land stewardship—affect the smallest members of our local ecosystem. The event will close with audience Q&A.
Dr. Ware is the author of "Bugs (A Day in the Life): What Do Bees, Ants, and Dragonflies Get up to All Day?", a children's book about bugs. Books will be available for sale and signing.

The evening will be moderated by David Pogue, the Emmy Award–winning journalist, author, and television host best known for his work with CBS Sunday Morning, The New York Times, and NOVA. A Bedford resident, Pogue brings curiosity, clarity, and wit to conversations that bridge science, culture, and everyday life.

The Knights & Conrad Tao

Experience a vibrant celebration of the American sound as the boundary-breaking orchestral collective The Knights joins forces with visionary pianist Conrad Tao for an afternoon of fearless music-making. Led by Artistic Directors Eric and Colin Jacobson, the program anchors the spirit of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, featuring Tao’s acclaimed, "explosive" interpretation within a broader narrative of musical innovation. From the pastoral beauty of Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite and Margaret Bonds’ soulful Troubled Water to contemporary rhapsodies by Jessie Montgomery and the ensemble's own Christina Courtin, this performance bridges the gap between classical tradition and modern energy.

Classic Tuesday: Lust For Life (1956)

Vibrant orange sunflowers. Rippling yellow grain. Trees bursting with white bloom. "The pictures come to me as in a dream," Vincent Van Gogh said. A dream that too often turned to life-shattering nightmare. Winner of Golden Globe and New York Film Critics Best Actor Awards, Kirk Douglas gives a fierce portrayal as the artist torn between the joyous inspiration of his genius and the dark desperation of his tormented mind. The obsessed Van Gogh painted the way other men breathe, driving away family and friends, including artist Paul Gauguin (1956 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award winner Anthony Quinn). Directed by Vincente Minnelli and saturated with the hues of Van Gogh's sea, field and sky, Lust for Life captures the ecstasy of art. And the agony of one man's life.

WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS: AN EVENING WITH EMERSON, LAKE, AND PALMER

Created by Carl Palmer and his management, the show will be presented with the full cooperation of the Estates of Keith Emerson and Greg Lake. THIS IS NOT A TRIBUTE ACT- THIS IS THE REAL THING.  Through modern technology they will reunite the band: Carl with his two bandmates, playing together along with Keith Emerson & Greg Lake, who both passed away in 2016. The show combines video performance of Emerson and Lake from a legendary sold out ROYAL ALBERT HALL ELP show from 1992 with live on stage performances of Carl Palmer with his own ELP Legacy band (Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick).

All the musicians play together in sync to present a complete and authentic Emerson, Lake & Palmer show.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer (informally known as ELP) was an English progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1970. The band consisted of Keith Emerson (keyboards) of the Nice, Greg Lake of King Crimson (vocals, bass, guitar, producer), and Carl Palmer of Atomic Rooster (drums, percussion). With nine RIAA-certified gold record albums in the US and an estimated 48 million records sold worldwide, they are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock groups of the 1970s, with a musical sound including adaptations of classical music with jazz and symphonic rock elements, dominated by Emerson’s flamboyant use of the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizer, and piano (although Lake wrote several acoustic songs for the group).

Christopher Durang, author of such plays as Sister Mary Ignatius explains It All for You (Obie Award for Best Play) and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Tony Award for Best Play), turned his hilarious, neurotic gaze towards the excesses of the mental health world in 1981’s Beyond Therapy. What happens when two Manhattanites, inspired by their respective looney psychiatrists, place personal ads in the paper in hope of finding true love? Only “the explosive comic brilliance of Christopher Durang” (NY Times) could possibly answer that question.

Alex Pavone is a comedian from Toronto, now based in New York City. Pavone has been featured on CBC, MTV and SiriusXM Radio. He has performed at festivals like JFL42 and Montreal's Just for Laughs, as well as historic venues such as the Danforth Music Hall and Massey Hall on New Year's Eve. Alex has performed at clubs and colleges all over North America, has opened for Bill Burr and currently tours with Steph Tolev. Pavone has been featured on Barstool Breakfast, the Brawl Network, and Flagrant 2. Alex is also a contributor at Pub Sports Radio, where he breaks down NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL picks for their audience.

Ben Kirschenbaum is a New York stand-up comedian and writer who currently lives ten blocks away from where he grew up. In his early twenties, he mustered up the courage to move to Chicago to pursue his dream of performing at Second City. Once he discovered that improv repels women, Ben moved back to his hometown. He’s written for MTV, Clickhole, and seriouslyTV. Ben performs all over New York and headlines across the country.

Michael Bramante is a New York City-based stand-up comedian and writer who performs at many of the city's top clubs. He has been featured in The New York Times, and has written articles for comedy publications including Points in Case and Medium's The Haven.
Mike won the inaugural 2019 Comfy Comedy Clash at The Comic Strip, received a residency at Broadway / Greenwich Village Comedy Clubs, and has performed in multiple festivals. He was most recently selected for the New Talent Showcase at the 2021 Connecticut Comedy Festival at Fairfield Comedy Club.
Mike is the co-host of the Do Less podcast with fellow comic Jake Velazquez, in which the guys discuss how doing less is the key to happiness and success.
Mike’s style blends observational and self-deprecating humor about being a soft guy living in a hard world. He also has an edgy, dark alter ego, because incongruity is funny.

Ben Rosenfeld's comedy is “playfully dark, seriously smart.” Ben’s comedy blends his family’s experience as Russian Jewish immigrants in America with his philosophical beliefs, political observations and unique characters. The Art of Photo Transfer Workshop with Monique Ford

The art of photo transfer has been around for 200 years. Used in experimental techniques from a photo-engraved printing plate, prior to the emergence of fine art photography. There are many different approaches in our contemporary landscape incorporating photo transfer. Join Monique Ford on Thursday March 26 at 6:30pm to explore fine art techniques that transform your photos and elevate your memories.

For best results, choose images with good contrast and lighting. Print them on standard 8.5 X 11″ paper using an Epson or laser printer—your images can go right to the edge if you’d like. Important note: If your image has any text, make sure to mirror it before printing!

Space is limited to 10 participants.

Author Talk with David Pogue

Say the word “Apple,” flash the iconic logo, or play those familiar device sounds, and you’ll spark instant recognition—and probably a strong reaction. With billions of devoted customers, Apple isn’t just a tech giant; it’s one of the most influential and scrutinized companies in history. It’s hard to imagine now, but during Steve Jobs’s absence in the late ’80s and early ’90s, Apple was weeks from bankruptcy. As the company approaches its 50th anniversary on April 1, 2026—now valued at nearly $4 trillion—award-winning journalist David Pogue celebrates the milestone with APPLE: The First 50 Years. At this special Playhouse event, Pogue shares insights from 150 insiders, untold origin stories (Apple II, iMac, iPod, iPhone), surprising lessons from Apple’s dramatic fall and rise—and yes, even a few Apple song parodies at the piano. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Faith In Film: The Gospel According To St. Matthew (1964)

A biblical epic that only the Marxist dissident Pier Paolo Pasolini could make, this intensely faithful adaptation of Saint Matthew’s Gospel depicts the life and teachings of Jesus Christ (Enrique Irazoqui, a Spanish economics student and Communist activist), whose unwavering compassion for the poor and defiant condemnation of moral hypocrisy make him a perhaps unexpected embodiment of the director’s own worldview. Stunningly shot amid the timeless landscapes of southern Italy and set to a soundtrack that encompasses everything from Bach to Black spirituals, The Gospel According to Matthew cuts past dogma and straight to the core of Jesus’s radical humanism. Presented in Italian with English subtitles. The Faith in Film series is presented in association with St. Matthew's Church with an introduction by the Rev. John Zahl.

Opening Reception: Multitudes featuring Allison Belolan, Dorian Goldman, Anne Pollard James and Angela Strassheim

The Gallery at Yellow Studio presents Multitudes, a group exhibition featuring Allison Belolan, Dorian Goldman, Anne Pollard James, and Angela Strassheim, on view March 21 through April 19, 2026. The exhibition brings together painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture to examine how women perceive themselves and their bodies, and how others perceive them. The works investigate the many versions of ourselves that exist simultaneously: the self we know, the self others see, the roles we inhabit, and the experiences we share. Join us for an opening reception on Saturday, March 21, from 4 to 6pm.

Through diverse mediums and approaches, the four artists reclaim autonomy and ownership of representation, pushing back against idealized expectations and centering regular bodies as sites of strength and transformation. Anne Pollard James presents bold works that shift between confrontation and quiet negotiation. Allison Belolan’s layered monotypes and collages on handmade paper examine shared bodily experiences, deliberately breaking from classical conventions. Angela Strassheim, an internationally recognized photographer, explores the performative aspects of photography while challenging traditional ways of looking at the female form. Dorian Goldman’s clay and bronze sculptures blur the boundary between the anatomical and the organic, drawing connections between the female body and forms in nature. Together, these artists create a powerful conversation about reclaiming the gaze and the right to take up space without apology.
